Board of Directors 

Christyne Hamilton, Chair, is President and Treasurer of the Albert Leroy Brown Foundation. She is also a trustee of family trusts and an educational consultant in the areas of administrative, business, legal and policy issues. Chris recently retired from the Community College System where she was an employee for over 40 years. During that time, she held a number of administrative and executive positions in finance, administration, and business services. Her most recent positions were held at Lake Sumter Community College, the Division of Community Colleges, and at Seminole Community College, where she was the Vice President of Administrative and Business Services. Chris has a Master’s in Accounting from the University of South Florida, and a B.S. in Business Administration from Rollins College in Winter Park, FL.

Thomas (Tom) F. Blaney, Vice Chair, is Secretary of the McCaddin/McQuirk Foundation in New York. Tom is a partner in the accounting firm of O’Connor Davies Munns & Dobbins, LLP, with offices in New York, Connecticut and New Jersey. He has spent over 20 years specializing solely in the accounting and tax aspects of exempt organizations and private foundations. He is a frequent speaker at private foundation conferences and has written numerous articles on a variety of nonprofit topics. He authored the uniform system of financial reporting for Private Foundations and is a contributor to the ASF New Foundation Guidebookk. Tom is also a Certified Fraud Examiner. He is currently on the Leadership Committee of the Support Center for Nonprofit Management, and serves on the Finance and Audit Committees of ASF. Tom was recently appointed to the panel on the nonprofit sector 990 PF Reform Advisory Committee. Tom is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants, American Society of Fraud Examiners and the New York State Society of Certified Public Accountants, where he serves on the Diversity Committee. Tom is a graduate of Pace University.

Patrick (Pat) S. DeMoon, Treasurer, is the Founder and President of The Kara Foundation in Bloomingdale, IL. Pat was affiliated with the Central Community Hospital of Chicago from 1958-1990. While serving as the hospital’s Administrator he was responsible for virtually all operational aspects of the 131-bed acute care facility. Following this Pat was the COO for the Buffalo Prairie Gang Camp, which was part of Paul Newman's camps for children with cancer and other life threatening illnesses. Pat served as an elected official for the Village of Bloomingdale for ten years. He was a member of the Dupage County Board of Health, and served as its Secretary. Pat is a founder of, and serves as a member of the Board of the Advantage National Bank. Pat is active in many organizations and is currently the Coordinator for the Kane County Health Departments Medical Reserve Corps. In this position he is responsible for organizing, and training the local community in preparing for disasters. His awards include the Knight of Grace in the Most Venerable Order of the Hospital of St. John of Jerusalem. This award was granted by the Queen of England. He is a Diplomat in the American Academy of Medical Administrators.

Marlene (Marty) J. Fluharty, Secretary, is the Executive Director of the Americana Foundation in Novi, Michigan. She is a founder of ASF, and was re-elected to the board in November 2005. For the past thirty years Marty has developed and implemented training programs for nonprofit organizations with a concentration in environmental, volunteer leader and activist organizations. She continues to serve as a facilitator for community organizing, a trainer for volunteer organizations and a consultant on land stewardship and growth management issues. Marty, a former Commissioner for the Michigan Department of Natural Resources, served as Chairman of the State’s Integrated Land Use Task Force and currently serves as a Director of the Funders Network for Smart Growth in Miami, FL and the Land Information Access Association. She is a founder and co-chair of the Michigan Funders Network for Smart Growth and is a Trustee of the Sierra Club Foundation in San Francisco. Marty has a B.S. in Education from Ohio State University and an M.S. in Outdoor Recreation and Field Biology from Central Michigan University. In 2003 she received statewide recognition as the third recipient of the Governor Milliken Environmental Service Award. She is the author of two publications: Managing Growth: New Directions Toward Integrated Land Use Planning; and, Integrated Land Use Task Force Report.

Eliot P. Green, Assistant Secretary, is a trustee of The Bravest Fund in New York. He is a partner in the Corporate Department and leads the Tax-Exempt Organizations Practice Group in the New York office of Loeb & Loeb, LLP. Eliot represents family and corporate private foundations and a wide-range of public charities in the areas of social/human services, healthcare, education, the arts, and sports/entertainment. He has extensive experience in the structuring and implementation of complex healthcare and social/human services provider transactions, including mergers and acquisitions, affiliations, virtual mergers, joint ventures, integrations and contractual negotiations, involving both for-profit and nonprofit organizations. He also advises governing boards on matters such as  executive compensation, board fiduciary duties and liability, governance and accountability, regulatory compliance and charitable/solicitation fundraising issues. Eliot is a member of the National Health Lawyers Association and the National Association of Bond Lawyers. He is president of the Board of the Council of Family and Child Caring Agencies (COFCCA), the New York state trade association representing 150 family and children services providers. He is also chair of the Audit Committee of YAI/National Institute for People with Disabilities. Recently, Eliot was elected to the Board of Trustees of the Children's Aid Society. Eliot received his J.D. from Case Western Reserve University School of Law, and his B.A. from Allegheny College.

Henry L. Berman is President and co-trustee of The Edith Glick Shoolman Children’s Foundation. He also serves as a trustee for a number of charitable trusts. As a director, writer and producer of multi-media programs for over thirty years, Henry has created educational, training, motivational and fund raising films and videos. Most of his work is with major corporations, labor unions, and small non-profit organizations. Henry has extensive volunteer experience serving in leadership positions for several non-profits, including a summer experiential education program, professional associations, and a newly formed museum dedicated to the history and preservation of broadcast television equipment. Henry holds a Bachelor of Science in communications from Ithaca College, a Masters and Doctorate in education from Boston University, and a Certificate in Business and Management from Harvard University Extension School, where he currently helps teach classes in fundraising.

Heather Carroll is the President and Executive Director of the Joseph Henry Edmondson Foundation, a private foundation serving the Pikes Peak area. Heather has previously served as a grants manager for the Colorado Department of Education, a program officer for El Pomar Foundation and Administrative Director of the Children’s Brain Tumor Foundation in New York. She currently serves as board Chair of the Community Venture Partners, and serves on the boards of the Center for Nonprofit Excellence, The Colorado College Alumni Board, and the Rocky Mountain Women’s Film Festival. She is a past President of the Colorado Association of Funders, and continues to serve as a board member. Heather was named a “Woman of Influence” by the Colorado Springs Business Journal. The Joseph Henry Edmondson Foundation was awarded the Partners in Philanthropy Outstanding Foundation in 2001.  Heather received a B.A. from The Colorado College in 1989 and is a graduate of the El Pomar Fellowship in Community Service and the Institute for Educational Leadership’s Education Policy Fellowship.

Anne L. Gunsteens has been Executive Director of The J. Willard and Alice S. Marriott Foundation in Washington, D.C. since 2000. During her tenure, the Foundation’s giving has quadrupled and assets have surpassed the half billion mark; she designed, implemented and administered disaster relief funds for 9/11 and Katrina victims, all while maintaining a very small staff. In addition, Anne serves on advisory committees and/or volunteers at a variety of nonprofits in the Washington, D.C. area, including the Association of Small Foundations. Prior to the Foundation, Anne worked for Marriott International and spent over 10 years at KPMG in Chicago. She is a graduate of Northern Illinois University and a CPA.

Jane Leighty Justis is a trustee and the Executive Director of The Leighty Foundation, founded in Waterloo, Iowa by her father in 1985. Jane is active in the promotion of philanthropy through leadership roles with such organizations as the Council on Foundations, the Association of Small Foundations, the Colorado Association of Funders, the Colorado Springs Funders Forum, the Pikes Peak Community Foundation and the Women’s Philanthropy Institute. Jane is a nationally recognized speaker on the opportunities and challenges of family philanthropy. She has extensive experience as a trainer and consultant for non profits in volunteer management and leadership development. Jane has a degree in Education from the University of Denver, a certification in Volunteer Management from the University of Colorado, and a Masters in Christian Leadership from Fuller Theological Seminary. She and her husband have two grown children, a new grandbaby, and live in the mountains of Colorado.

Floyd Keene is the President and Founder of the Triple EEE Foundation. Before leaving the business world in 1993, he was Vice President and Associate General Counsel of Ameritech, a Fortune 500 company. Originally, The Triple EEE Foundation was created with a seven year life expectancy. However, the foundation has extended its life expectancy plan and operates today as a small private foundation. Mr. Keene has also served as President of Youth Guidance, a large Social Service Agency in Chicago. He has served as President, officer or board member of a number of other non-profits. He is currently a strong advocate for Mission Based and Socially Responsible Investing. Mr. Keene graduated from the University of Wisconsin, where he was Phi Beta Kappa and President of his graduating class. He also received his Law Degree cum laude from the University of Wisconsin.

Landon B. Lane co-founded the L.B. Lane Family Foundation in Hickory, NC in 1987, and serves as the foundation's President. Landon holds an MBA from the Darden Graduate School at the University of Virginia and a B.A. in Economics from Washington & Lee University. He held a number of positions, including Vice President of Finance and Administration, at The Lane Company. In 1988 he was Co-owner of Computerland of Hickory (Hickory, NC) and since 1993 Landon has been a private investor and/or director of several technology and furniture manufacturing companies. Landon has also been a consultant on financial and management systems to BenchCraft Furniture in MS. An early member of ASF, Landon has served in volunteer directorships for the Virginia Episcopal School of Lynchburg Virginia; the YMCA of Catawba Valley, the Kiwanis Foundation, the Catawba Science Center and the SALT Block Foundation, all of Hickory, NC.

Carolyn O’Malley is Executive Director of The Dorrance Family Foundation in Phoenix, AZ. Before joining the Foundation in 2001, Carolyn was Executive Director of the Desert Botanical Garden. From 1973 to 1987, she lived in Hong Kong, Singapore, Japan, The Philippines and England, where she served on various volunteer boards and committees in the communities. In 1987 she moved to Phoenix and became Director of Public Relations for The Volunteer Center of Maricopa County. Carolyn serves on several boards, including: DC Ranch Community Foundation and Arizona Grantmakers Forum. Carolyn received a B.A. in Sociology from Whittier College and a Master of International Management from Thunderbird, the Garvin School of International Management.
